Fulton County voters have filed more than 11,400 absentee ballot applications for the Nov. 3 general election, with early in-person voting opening Tuesday, Oct. 13, at three Sandy Springs locations.

The county's unofficial absentee report, updated Tuesday, Oct. 6, shows 11,452 accepted applications. That is up from 10,131 on Sept. 29 and 11,014 on Oct. 2, a steady climb as the election approaches.

The county mailed 9,629 absentee ballots as of Oct. 6. The biggest single mailing day came Monday, Oct. 5, when the county sent out 9,305 regular ballots and 324 provisional ballots. Of the ballots mailed so far, 225 have been returned by voters and 210 have been accepted.

Ninety-eight applications were rejected.

Overseas and military voters account for a separate batch. The county transmitted 1,367 ballots electronically to voters covered under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA).

Early voting starts Tuesday, Oct. 13

Sandy Springs residents who prefer to vote in person before Election Day have three locations to choose from when advance voting opens Oct. 13 and runs through Friday, Oct. 30, according to the Fulton County early voting page:

  • Sandy Springs Library, 395 Mt. Vernon Highway
  • North Fulton Service Center, 7741 Roswell Road
  • North Fulton Training Center, 5025 Roswell Road

Hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The Sandy Springs Library also serves as an absentee ballot drop box site during the advance voting period.

Key deadlines

Voters who still want an absentee ballot by mail must request one by Friday, Oct. 23, according to the Georgia Secretary of State's office. Completed ballots can be returned by mail, dropped at a designated drop box by Friday, Oct. 30, or delivered in person to a Fulton County election office. The North Annex at 7741 Roswell Road, Room 251, in Sandy Springs accepts in-person returns.

Nadine Williams, director of the Fulton County Department of Registration and Elections, signed a public notice scheduling absentee ballot processing and scanning to begin Monday, Oct. 26, at 8 a.m. at the Fulton County Election Hub in Fairburn.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
