North Springs put 65 points on the board against Salem on Oct. 9, the most the Spartans have scored in a single game this decade.

The 65-0 shutout was dominant. Played on the road, it also snapped a nine-game away losing streak that stretched back to last season for coach Walter Vaughn's squad. The school's official account on X said the team scored more points than in any other game this decade, and the football team's Instagram page hyped the milestone on Oct. 13.

Quarterback Zaire Sykes drove the blowout. He rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on just seven carries. He also threw for 96 yards and another score on eight passes, according to MaxPreps. The Salem game marked Sykes' eighth consecutive contest with at least one rushing touchdown. Running back Daniel Harris added 92 yards and two scores on 12 carries.

The win moved North Springs to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in GHSA Class AAAA Region 5 play.

The Spartans turn to a Homecoming matchup the football program is billing as the "Battle of the Spartans." North Springs hosts Greater Atlanta Christian at Riverwood at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Both squads share the Spartans nickname and compete in Region 5.

GAC enters at 3-3 overall but 0-2 in region play, riding a two-game losing streak. The Norcross-based school fell to Douglass 50-48 in triple overtime on Oct. 3 and lost to Stephenson 38-35 on Oct. 9, according to MaxPreps. GAC has scored 199 points this season and allowed 180.

North Springs will look to ride the momentum of its record-setting night and pick up a second straight region win. After the Oct. 16 matchup, GAC hosts Salem on Oct. 23.
