A man accused of shooting a driver in both arms during a road-rage encounter on GA-400 was arrested in New York City more than two years after the attack, Sandy Springs police said.

Malvin Fajardo-Perez was taken into custody Oct. 17, according to a Sandy Springs Police Department press release first reported by Fox 5 Atlanta. He faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, first-degree criminal damage to property and discharging a firearm on or near a public roadway.

The shooting happened around 7:13 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2024, on northbound GA-400. Fox 5 placed the location near the Glenridge Connector, while WSB-TV reported officers were called to the highway near Windsor Parkway. Police said the victim got into a confrontation involving aggressive driving with the driver of a dark-colored Tesla.

The suspect fired four rounds into the victim's vehicle, police said. The driver was hit in both arms and taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The shooter fled. Detectives spent months trying to identify him.

The break came on Feb. 14, 2025, when Cartersville police arrested Fajardo-Perez after a separate road-rage shooting with similar circumstances. In that case, officers found a vehicle with a window shot out and a victim with facial cuts from shattered glass, WSB-TV reported. Rockmart police stopped a red Tesla driven by Fajardo-Perez shortly after and found a .45-caliber Glock pistol and shell casings inside the car, according to Cartersville police.

Cartersville officers charged him with aggravated assault, reckless conduct, criminal damage to property and discharging a firearm near a public roadway.

Evidence from that Cartersville investigation linked Fajardo-Perez to the GA-400 shooting in Sandy Springs, according to the department's press release. Police have not disclosed what specific ballistics or digital evidence connected the two cases.

Fajardo-Perez remains in custody and is awaiting extradition to Georgia to face the Sandy Springs charges, WSB-TV reported.

Police have not released the identity of the wounded driver or disclosed what triggered the confrontation on GA-400. Residents with information about the case can contact the Sandy Springs Police Department.
