Free diapers and period pads are now available monthly at the Sandy Springs Library through a partnership with Helping Mamas of Atlanta.

The library held a distribution on Wednesday, Oct. 21, according to the library's event listing. The program runs on the third Wednesday of each month from noon to 2 p.m. Supplies are available on a first-come, first-served basis while they last.

The program targets local families in need of essentials that public assistance programs do not cover. Without enough diapers, children can't attend daycare, and parents may miss work, according to Helping Mamas.

Helping Mamas is an Atlanta-based nonprofit that collects and distributes diapers, wipes, baby supplies and menstrual products. The organization says it works with more than 180 nonprofits, hospitals, government agencies and community organizations across Georgia and East Tennessee. It purchases high-need items in bulk through partnerships including the National Diaper Bank Network.

The nonprofit distributes supplies through what it describes as a library distribution program, health offices and community events.

No registration or eligibility requirements were listed in the library's event posting.

The next scheduled distribution falls on the third Wednesday of November.
