Sandy Springs celebrated improvements to Morgan Falls Dog Park with an Oct. 14 ribbon-cutting, marking the completion of a renovation aimed at reducing muddy conditions and improving access.
The 3.4-acre park at 100 Morgan Falls Road has upgraded areas for large and small dogs, along with shade structures, seating, drinking fountains and a wash station. The project carried a $1.04 million budget, according to Rough Draft Atlanta.
Drainage problems drove the work. A channel obstructed by sediment, fallen limbs and roots had allowed water to spill into the large-dog enclosure, according to the city’s construction overview. Initial earthwork in fall 2024 redirected runoff and reshaped the ground before crews installed additional amenities.
The city says community feedback helped guide the improvements, which also include picnic tables, waste stations and climbing boulders.
Mayor Rusty Paul recalled visiting the park with his golden retriever before the drainage repairs.
“There was plenty of mud for my golden here for a long time,” Paul said, according to Rough Draft’s ceremony coverage.
Recreation and Parks Director Brent Walker said the renovated park includes accessible parking and hardscape access. Georgia Power owns the property near the Morgan Falls hydroelectric dam and leases it to the city.

Walker also described upcoming work at the Morgan Falls Athletic Complex, including artificial turf for all 10 fields, additional parking and stormwater upgrades.
The city hopes to begin construction in mid-2027 and finish around 2028, Walker told Rough Draft. Scheduling will depend on the Sandy Springs Youth Association’s games.
At Morgan Falls Overlook Park, plans call for expanded kayak storage, a boathouse and a new dock. Walker said the dock was being manufactured and expressed hope that it would arrive this fall.
