A crash investigation shut down all southbound lanes of GA-400 at the I-285 interchange early Tuesday, July 28, forcing drivers off one of Sandy Springs' busiest corridors for about two hours before police gave the all-clear.
Sandy Springs Police, led by Chief Ken DeSimone, posted a traffic alert on X at 1:07 a.m. warning motorists to avoid the area. All southbound lanes were closed while officers investigated.
The closure lasted until 3:13 a.m., when the department confirmed on X that all southbound lanes had reopened. The full shutdown lasted roughly two hours.

A high-volume interchange
The GA-400/I-285 interchange handles more than 240,000 vehicles per day, according to a 2022 city government estimate tied to the Transform 285/400 construction project. Tuesday's closure fell during overnight hours when traffic volumes are far lower than during the morning and evening rush.
A full closure of all southbound lanes is unusual at this location. Sandy Springs Police issued a similar traffic alert in November 2025 when two right lanes at the same interchange were closed for a separate investigation.
