Fulton County is turning its solar energy data into public art. A free exhibition called "Fulton Brighter Futures" opens Wednesday, August 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Peachtree Gallery inside the Fulton County Government Center, 141 Pryor Street SW, Atlanta.

The show visualizes data from the county's solar panel program, which has a direct Sandy Springs footprint. The Dorothy C. Benson Senior Multipurpose Complex on Morgan Falls Road received panels as part of a 2025 expansion and hosted one of two ceremonial launch events for the project, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

What the program has done

Fulton County has generated solar power from building rooftops since 2021. The program now covers 42 buildings, with 46 more added through a 2025 partnership with Atlanta-based Cherry Street Energy. That 20-year contract is projected to save $2.4 million, according to county records.

Jessica Lavender, the county's Energy and Sustainability Manager in the Department of Real Estate and Asset Management, leads the initiative. Lavender has said the county's goal is to have solar offset 25 percent of its electricity use by 2030.

The numbers behind the art: the program saves roughly $10,000 per month and has cut emissions by 5.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent, according to the county's sustainability office. That equals the carbon absorbed by 2,644 acres of forest.

The Fulton County Public Art Program organized the exhibition. Admission is free and open to all county residents, including those in Sandy Springs. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
