Riverwood freshman Finlay Waidelich hit an inside-the-park home run against Roswell on Tuesday, Sept. 8, her first homer as a Raider.

The hit came in a Region 7-6A matchup at Riverwood that ended as the Raiders' second region win of the 2026 season. The team's official fastpitch account celebrated the moment, noting that players from every grade, ninth through 12th, have contributed to the lineup this fall.

Riverwood stood at 10-3-1 as of Wednesday, Sept. 9, according to the Riverwood Athletics account on X. Russo is in his first year leading the program.

Jason Russo took over as head coach after nearly a decade at Riverwood. He began teaching at the school in 2018 and started coaching in the baseball program in 2019 before moving to softball. He also teaches Adapted Physical Education and serves as a Special Olympics Georgia coach, according to a Riverwood Athletics announcement when he was named head coach.

Heading into the Roswell game, the Raiders were coming off an 8-5 road win at Lanier. Stella Kuehn drove in runs with a base hit up the middle, May Weis added a solo home run and Audrey Busch ripped a two-run double in the top of the seventh to seal it, according to a Riverwood Athletics Facebook preview of the Roswell matchup.

The Raiders opened region play Sept. 1 with an 8-0 win over Gainesville. Weis recorded her 500th career strikeout in that game, a milestone for the program as it pushes deeper into the Region 7-6A schedule.
