Raider softball kicks off the fall sports season with a four-team, all-Sandy Springs tournament at Riverwood International Charter School on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and Thursday, Aug. 6.

The Battle of Sandy Springs brings North Springs, Mount Vernon, and Holy Innocents to Riverwood's home field for three games over two days. It marks the first competition of the 2026-27 athletic year for the Raiders and gives Sandy Springs fans an early look at the cross-town rivalry between Riverwood and North Springs, two weeks before the schools meet on the football field Friday, Aug. 21.

Schedule

Wednesday, Aug. 5

  • 5:00 p.m. — Riverwood vs. Mount Vernon
  • 7:00 p.m. — Riverwood vs. North Springs

Thursday, Aug. 6

  • 3:00 p.m. — Riverwood vs. Holy Innocents

The tournament will be the first games under new head coach Jason Russo, who was named to the role in June. Russo has been part of the Riverwood staff for nearly a decade, teaching since 2018 and coaching baseball since 2019 before taking over the softball program. He graduated from Indiana University in 2013 with a degree in kinesiology and also serves as a Special Olympics Georgia coach.

Riverwood Athletics announced the tournament Friday, calling it the season opener and urging fans to support the Raiders at home. All four competing schools sit within the Sandy Springs area, making this a true neighborhood showcase.

Tickets are available through GoFan. The games will be played at Riverwood, 5900 Raider Dr., Atlanta, GA 30328.

Riverwood competes in GHSA Region 7-6A. The Raiders' full fall schedule beyond the tournament has not been announced.
