Sandy Springs police arrested a man they say stole money, disabled security cameras and set fire to the Sonic restaurant on Roswell Road.

Luis Quintana faces charges of first-degree arson and second-degree burglary. He is being held at Fulton County Jail.

Police and Sandy Springs Fire Department crews responded to the fire at 5903 Roswell Road at about 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, according to Fox 5 Atlanta, which first reported from a Sandy Springs police press release. The extent of fire damage to the building has not been reported.

Detectives determined that business funds had been taken from the restaurant and that the building's security camera system was intentionally disabled before the fire broke out, police said.

Investigators identified Quintana as the suspect and obtained arrest and search warrants. Officers found him at his home and took him into custody without incident. Police said officers recovered evidence connected to the case when they arrested Quintana at his home.

Police have not disclosed whether Quintana was an employee or former employee of the restaurant. The exact amount of money taken has not been released. No court date or arraignment has been announced.

The Sonic location at 5903 Roswell Road opened in spring 2023 and featured nine drive-in stalls, a patio with outdoor tables and lawn games, and exterior pick-up lockers, WSB-TV reported.

The ribbon-cutting was attended by Inspire Brands CEO Paul Brown, Sonic Brand President Jim Taylor and Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul. Inspire Brands, the corporation that owns the Sonic chain, operates its Atlanta Global Support Center less than two miles from the restaurant.

11Alive reported that detectives are continuing to investigate the case. WSB-TV said it reached out to Sonic for details about the damage but did not receive a response.
