Sandy Springs residents can meet police officers, firefighters and K-9 units up close on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the city's National Night Out celebration.

The Sandy Springs Police Department and Sandy Springs Fire Department are hosting the free event from 6 to 8 p.m. at City Hall, 1 Galambos Way, in the City Springs development. Activities include emergency vehicle displays, a helicopter landing demonstration and inflatables for kids.

The event is free.

Fulton County Commissioner Bob Ellis promoted the celebration on X on the afternoon of Aug. 4, encouraging families to come out and meet the officers and firefighters who help keep the community safe.

What is National Night Out?

National Night Out is a nationwide community policing event held the first Tuesday of August each year. Established in 1984, the program aims to strengthen police-community partnerships and raise awareness about crime prevention. By 2016, the event had grown to include 38 million participants across 16,000 communities.

What to expect

The Sandy Springs event gives residents a chance to interact with officers and firefighters in a casual setting. Attendees can explore police cruisers, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles, watch a K-9 demonstration and see a helicopter land on site.

Inflatables and other family-friendly activities round out the evening.

Getting there

City Hall sits at 1 Galambos Way in the City Springs district. Underground parking is available with the first two hours free. The venue is also accessible via MARTA bus routes 5 and 87.
