A water main break on Boylston Drive cut water service to 15 homes and two apartment complexes in Sandy Springs on Sunday, Oct. 11.

The City of Sandy Springs closed Boylston Drive from Hammond Drive to 6059 Boylston Drive while crews worked to repair the break, according to the city's official X account. Water was shut off along Boylston Drive from Hammond Drive to Hilderbrand Drive, affecting 17 properties in all.

The city posted an initial road closure alert shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, warning drivers to avoid the area. A follow-up post promised updates as they became available.

About five hours later, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the city announced the road had reopened.

Several questions remain unanswered. The city did not say what caused the break. It did not say whether it issued a boil-water advisory for the affected properties. And it did not confirm whether water service was fully restored to all 17 properties at the time the road reopened.

The city had not posted additional public details about the break as of Monday, Oct. 12. Carter Long is the city's communications director.

The break is the second utility disruption to hit a Sandy Springs neighborhood in less than a week. A gas main strike on Johnson Ferry Road on Tuesday, Oct. 6, forced the evacuation of about 100 homes. That incident involved a different utility and a different part of the city, but the back-to-back disruptions have put infrastructure reliability in the spotlight for residents along two major corridors.

Boylston Drive runs through a residential stretch between Hammond Drive and Hilderbrand Drive. The closure affected both directions of traffic for the duration of the repair.
