Cox Enterprises is putting its name and money behind a Sandy Springs Education Force electronics recycling drive Saturday, Aug. 15, at North Springs High School, backing a nonprofit that serves nearly half the city's public school students who qualify as economically disadvantaged.

The Fortune 500 company, headquartered less than five miles from the school, is the named corporate sponsor of the fundraiser, according to Rough Draft Atlanta. The sponsorship dollar amount has not been disclosed.

Cox, a privately held company with $23 billion in annual revenue, announced in May it had surpassed $3 billion in cleantech investments including advanced recycling. The SSEF drive diverts electronics from landfills while funding education programs.

Sandy Springs Education Force (SSEF) runs 18 programs across 10 Sandy Springs public schools, covering STEAM, literacy, tutoring, after-school care and mentoring. Fulton County Schools named the nonprofit its 2025 Legacy of Excellence Partner of the Year.

As we reported July 29, the drive accepts working and non-working electronics with a minimum $25 donation per vehicle. Marietta-based Novus Solutions, which maintains a zero-landfill policy, will handle the recycling and data wiping. The event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school's parking lot. Donations are tax-deductible.

SSEF will pay extra per pound to recycle CRT and LCD televisions and monitors, so organizers are asking donors to give above the minimum to help cover those costs. Participants can pay on-site or donate online at sandyspringseducationforce.org/ways-to-donate and bring the receipt.

The nonprofit said in its announcement that it is expanding programs to provide targeted learning support for students whose families have limited financial means. Executive director Irene Schweiger leads the organization, though SSEF has not released a public statement from her about the Cox partnership.

Registration is open for SSEF's Lightning 5K/10K on Saturday, Oct. 24, an official Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Runners can sign up individually or with fundraising teams at runsignup.com/ssef through mid-October.
