Six federal and state law enforcement agencies will join Sandy Springs police and firefighters at City Green on Tuesday, Aug. 4, for the city's annual Back to School Bash and National Night Out event.
The FBI, Secret Service, DEA, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia State Patrol, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources will all send personnel and equipment to the free event, according to a city press release published Wednesday, July 8. The Sandy Springs Police Department, Sandy Springs Fire Department, and the city's Recreation and Parks Department are co-hosting.
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at City Green at City Springs, 1 Galambos Way.
National Night Out is a nationwide community-policing campaign held the first Tuesday of August each year, organized by the National Association of Town Watch.
Helicopters, SWAT vehicles, and K-9s
Residents will get up-close access to police cruisers, fire trucks, a mobile command center, a tactical response truck, and SWAT vehicles. K-9 units will also be on hand for meet-and-greets with officers and firefighters.
Two helicopters are expected to land on Mount Vernon Highway during the evening, at 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., according to event listings on Atlanta on the Cheap. Mount Vernon Highway runs directly past the City Springs complex; the city has not announced specific road closures for the landings.
Family activities
Beyond the public safety showcase, the evening includes a giant inflatable obstacle course, balloon art, carnival games, live music from a DJ, and an interactive dinosaur experience from Prehistoric Nation. Free hot dogs, shaved ice, and other refreshments will be available.
