Contractors, architects and inspectors working in Sandy Springs can now earn the professional credits they need to keep their licenses without leaving the city.
The International Code Council approved Sandy Springs as a preferred education provider in 2026, meaning the city's free Build seminar series now awards official ICC Continuing Education Units. The designation upgrades what had been a local training program into one with nationally recognized credentials.
The next session, "How to Pass Your Inspections the First Time Part II," is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. at City Hall, 1 Galambos Way. Registration is open through the city's website. There is no cost.
The city's Community Development department has already held six Build seminar sessions in 2026, covering building codes, permitting, inspections and construction best practices. The series brings together local building professionals with insights from industry experts and manufacturers, with content applicable to active projects.
ICC certifications must be renewed every three years, and different credentials require varying amounts of CEUs. The seminars are free and aimed at building professionals across metro Atlanta, but the City Hall location gives Sandy Springs contractors and inspectors a local option for credits that previously required travel to outside providers.
The city said its staff can now help local professionals meet renewal requirements by providing "practical, code-focused training" through the program.
Sandy Springs' Build seminar program is not new. A 2020 session on the 2018 International Residential Code offered CEUs and Professional Development Hours, with then-Building Official Jonathan Livingston, P.E., presenting. What changed in 2026 is that credits now carry the ICC's official stamp, giving them broader recognition across jurisdictions.
The city's announcement did not list seminar dates beyond Aug. 25. Professionals interested in future sessions can contact the Community Development department at 770-730-5600.
