Brickwork is rising on the new North Springs High School building, part of the roughly $177 million project to replace the Sandy Springs campus on Roswell Road.
The school's official account posted photos on X on Tuesday, Sept. 1, showing exterior brick going up and interior work progressing. The new building will hold up to 1,500 students in grades 9–12, a significant jump from the school's current enrollment of about 1,195.
The project is on schedule, according to the district's capital plan page. Students are set to move into the new campus for the 2027–2028 school year, with an August 2027 opening date.
The full project won't wrap up then, though. Demolition of the existing building and completion of the stadium, athletic fields, courts and parking lots are scheduled for August 2028.
How the money breaks down
The Fulton County Schools Board of Education approved a $136.8 million contract with Carroll Daniel Construction of Gainesville for Phase II during its April 24, 2025, meeting, as Rough Draft Atlanta reported. Phase I, which prepared the site, cost $15 million. Furniture, fixtures, equipment and IT will add roughly $20 million more, bringing the total budget to approximately $177 million.
The project draws funding from two education special-purpose local-option sales taxes, known as ESPLOST IV and ESPLOST V.
Fulton County Schools Chief Operations Officer Noel Maloof told the board at an April 17, 2025, work session that Phase II covers "the construction of the new high school building, associated parking lots, driveways, running track, football field, softball field, tennis courts … and utilities," plus demolition of the old building once the new one opens.
Career programs coming north
The new campus will also house a north location of the Promise Career Institute, a career and technical education program currently based in College Park. Board member Lillie Pozatek said at the same April 2025 work session that the distance to the south Fulton campus had discouraged students on the north side from enrolling.
North Springs already operates STEAM, Creative Arts Conservatory and Accelerated Career Diploma magnet programs.
Collins Cooper Carusi Architects designed the new school. Construction has been active enough that the school's 2025 Summer Bridge program for incoming ninth graders was moved to Sandy Springs Middle School to avoid the work zone.
The North Springs project is already funded under the existing ESPLOST levies. A separate countywide ESPLOST referendum is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026, which would reimpose a 1% sales tax beginning July 1, 2027, to raise up to about $2.1 billion for future Fulton County educational capital projects.
