North Springs hosts a NEON-themed home game Friday, Aug. 28, carrying momentum from a milestone victory over crosstown rival Riverwood.
Head coach Walter Vaughn's squad routed the Raiders 48-12 on Friday, Aug. 21, giving the program its 300th win in school history. The North Springs athletics account posted on X after the game on Saturday, Aug. 22, celebrating the milestone:
Now the Spartans want that energy in the stands.
The school's athletics account announced the NEON theme on Wednesday, Aug. 26, urging fans to wear their brightest colors and pack the home bleachers for Friday Night Lights. The account said the team is "ready to carry that energy into another Friday Night Lights matchup."
Vaughn previously served as the Spartans' defensive line coach as early as 2021 before taking over as head coach for the 2026 season. He built his roster around a core that represented the program at Fulton County Football Media Day over the summer. Players Joseph Victor, Cooper Hammett, Miles Jackson and Zaire Sykes joined Vaughn at the College Football Hall of Fame for the event.
Vaughn's staff includes assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Coach Whiteside, who returned to North Springs in February. The program described Whiteside in a February post as a "homegrown legend" coming back to the school.
