Potbelly Sandwich Works will open its first Sandy Springs location at The Plaza at City Springs, filling a vacancy left when Buffalo Wild Wings GO closed in May 2026.

The Chicago-based chain plans to take over the space at 5840 Roswell Road, according to planning materials reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta.

No opening date has been announced.

The Sandy Springs shop is part of a broader push into Georgia. Potbelly is set to open its first-ever Atlanta-area restaurant on Tuesday, Sept. 1, in Chamblee at Peachtree Station Shopping Center. The chain plans to bring 15 locations to the state over the next seven years.

"Arriving in Georgia is a significant step in our brand's long-term growth journey," Potbelly president Adam Noyes said in an Aug. 12 press release previewing the Chamblee opening.

The expansion has an Atlanta connection at the top. RaceTrac, the family-owned convenience store company headquartered in Atlanta, acquired Potbelly in October 2025 for approximately $566 million. RaceTrac CEO Natalie Morhous, a third-generation leader of the company, said after the acquisition that the chain will grow as a standalone restaurant brand rather than being folded into RaceTrac gas stations.

The Sandy Springs and other initial Atlanta-area locations are being opened by Potbelly corporate, with plans to re-franchise them later. The original 15-unit franchise agreement, signed in November 2024 with Florida-based Royal Restaurant Group, fell apart after the RaceTrac acquisition. Royal sold its seven existing Potbelly shops in March 2026 and exited the brand.

Founded in Chicago in 1977, Potbelly now operates more than 450 locations across 30 states and Washington, D.C. The company plans to open 50 new shops in 2026 and expects to hit 500 total locations by year's end, according to Restaurant Dive.

At The Plaza at City Springs, Potbelly will join Brooklyn Bagel & Deli, Cava Digital Kitchen, Tin Drum Asian Kitchen and Starbucks. The space previously housed Eat Fit Go, an Atlanta-based prepared meal business that closed during a 2018 bankruptcy filing, before Buffalo Wild Wings GO moved in during May 2020.

Beyond Sandy Springs and Chamblee, confirmed locations include Forsyth Town Center in Cumming and a shop alongside a new RaceTrac near Cumberland Mall. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that a franchisee is scouting sites across Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb and Gwinnett counties.
