Benjamin Johnson will oversee the Riverwood International Charter School weight room and train athletes across every sport as the Sandy Springs school's new strength and conditioning coach.
The GHSA Region 7-6A school's athletics department announced the hire on Monday, Aug. 31. The role is not tied to a single team. Johnson will work with student-athletes in all Riverwood programs.
Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from Carson Newman University. He interned with the University of Tennessee's strength and conditioning program before serving as director of football sports performance at Bearden High School in Knoxville, where he ran the school's strength program.
The athletics department said Johnson emphasizes mentality, resilience and character in his training approach, aiming to develop athletes physically and mentally.
Riverwood has not announced a start date or first scheduled team session under Johnson.
