Riverwood International Charter School has named Jill Johnson as its next head girls tennis coach for the 2026-27 season, promoting from within its own teaching staff.

Johnson is a high school teacher at Riverwood, according to the Fulton County Schools staff directory. The school's athletics department announced the hire Monday, Aug. 17, describing Johnson as a familiar face at the school who already has connections to the Riverwood community.

The appointment comes as the Sandy Springs school moves into a new competitive tier. Riverwood shifts from Class 5A to Class 6A for the 2026-28 cycle under GHSA's latest region alignments, joining a Region 7 that includes Alpharetta, Gainesville, Johns Creek, Lanier, Milton, Mountain View and Roswell. The girls tennis squad will face stiffer competition in the larger classification.

The boys tennis program set a high bar last spring, winning the GHSA state championship under the prior 5A classification.

Athletic director PJ Graybeck oversees Riverwood's sports programs. No public comments from Graybeck or Johnson about goals or offseason plans for the girls tennis program were available as of Monday.

Riverwood is also filling out its broader 2026-27 athletic roster. A baseball parent and player interest meeting is set for Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. in the Riverwood Media Center, where coaches will share details about the 2027 season. Pre-registration via QR code is encouraged.
