Sandy Springs residents who need to register to vote or want to learn what's on the Tuesday, Nov. 3 ballot can get help at a free drop-in event at the Sandy Springs branch library on Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Voter Education and Registration Assistance Event, listed on the Fulton County Library System's events calendar, is open to first-time voters and experienced voters alike. The library describes it as aimed at educating residents about upcoming elections and how to get involved.

Georgia's voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3 general election is Monday, Oct. 5, giving unregistered residents roughly seven weeks after the library event to complete the process. In-person early voting runs Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Friday, Oct. 30. The absentee ballot request deadline is Friday, Oct. 23.

What's on the ballot

The Nov. 3 election carries high stakes for Sandy Springs. Voters will decide whether to renew Fulton County's Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, known as TSPLOST. If approved, the penny sales tax is projected to generate about $650 million countywide between 2027 and 2032, with Sandy Springs' share pegged at $112,340,820, according to Fulton Neighbor.

Each city decides how to spend its allocation. Countywide, the TSPLOST investment categories include $227 million for pedestrian, bicycle and streetscape projects; $183 million for maintenance and safety improvements; and $97 million each for congestion relief and operations.

Fulton County Chairman Robb Pitts said at the Aug. 3 signing of the intergovernmental agreement that "transportation remains one of the top concerns identified by Fulton County residents."
