The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile drew crowds of all ages to the Sandy Springs Farmers Market on Saturday, Aug. 1, turning the weekly produce run at City Green into a rolling nostalgia fest.

The 27-foot hot dog on wheels stopped at 1 Galambos Way as part of its 90th anniversary tour, Appen Media reported. Hotdoggers Carly "Corn Dog Carly" Bowden and Evie "Grill Ready Evie" Serda staffed the visit, handing out the brand's signature red wiener-shaped whistles and posing for pictures.

"We're lucky dogs that a lot of people love to come up and meet us," Bowden said at the market.

Oscar Mayer selects just 12 hotdoggers each summer, divides them into pairs and assigns each duo a region of the country with one of six Wienermobiles. The company says fewer people have held the job than have visited outer space.

The visit sparked intergenerational storytelling among attendees. Sandy Springs resident Cathy, who gave only her first name, said she first spotted the Wienermobile in Chicago in 1962 at age 7. She remembered receiving a miniature whistle that day and was thrilled to see the same giveaway still in circulation 64 years later.

Another visitor recalled his newlywed parents in 1960 dropping a plastic whistle into boiling water, convinced it would sound when the hot dogs were done. The boiling water melted the whistle. He said he still has it.

The "Dog Days of Summer" market edition also drew visitors from beyond Sandy Springs. Sheri and Ben Perkins of Roswell brought their dachshunds. Marshall Evans, also of Roswell, drove down with his kids after his parents raved about the Wienermobile's stop in Monroe. His son gave the vehicle a thumbs-up.

John Gorman, 90, visited with his wife Sharon as a belated birthday celebration. He noted that both he and the Wienermobile tradition turned 90 this year.

Family members of hotdoggers serving in other regions also showed up. Carey McCallar and her mother Carol Michaels drove from Cumming to support McCallar's daughter, known on the road as "Cookout Caroline." Bill Webb, stepfather of West Coast-based hotdogger "All Beef Aiden," stopped by too.

Katie Caldwell grinned while holding her dog Gus for a photo with the vehicle.

As we reported July 24, the market had promoted the Wienermobile appearance as part of its dog-themed day, which featured more than 50 vendors, Bruster's pup cups and hot dogs.

The Sandy Springs Farmers Market, which the market says has won Best of Georgia in the produce markets and local farms category three years running, operates every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 1 Galambos Way. Upcoming dates include Aug. 8 and Aug. 15.
