Salted Melon and Chastain Creamery will be the first retail tenants at Hillcrest, the mixed-use development under construction on Sandy Springs Circle near City Springs.
Developers Third & Urban and High Street Residential, Trammell Crow Company’s residential subsidiary, announced the signings Tuesday, Oct. 27. The businesses are expected to open in summer 2027, according to the announcement.
The 8.1-acre development south of Mount Vernon Highway will include 362 apartments, 30 rental townhomes and more than 19,000 square feet of retail surrounding a plaza and greenspace.
Salted Melon, a Charlotte-based restaurant concept serving salads, bowls, sandwiches, smoothies and specialty coffee, plans its sixth location at Hillcrest. It will be the company’s second Atlanta-area restaurant, following its February opening in Buckhead.
Founder Thomas Coker said Hillcrest’s location, outdoor dining space and connection to a pedestrian-friendly downtown helped attract the company.
Chastain Creamery will expand from its Buckhead shop on West Wieuca Road. Alongside its ice cream offerings, the business sells options without gluten, dairy, nuts or added sugar. A spokesperson said support for the Buckhead location encouraged the expansion.
More tenant announcements are expected.
“We’re in active negotiations with several more tenants and can’t wait to share who’s next,” Third & Urban partner Hank Farmer said.
Hillcrest occupies the former site of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church’s Hitson Center and adjoining land. Building frames and the parking structure are taking shape, Rough Draft Atlanta reported. The outlet also cited an Oct. 26 contractor update anticipating a second crane in November.
Although the tenant announcement targets summer 2027 openings, Trammell Crow’s project page lists overall completion in the third quarter of 2028.
The development will provide 111 city-controlled parking spaces under an agreement approved in summer 2025. Sandy Springs capped its upfront investment at $4.88 million, with the developer’s property tax savings directed toward reimbursing that investment, according to earlier Rough Draft reporting.
Across the street, Trammell Crow will also lead the City Springs expansion through High Street Residential, with support from Third & Urban and other development partners, the city announced.
