Authors Charles Seabrook and Ann Litrel will discuss Georgia’s natural landmarks at a Nov. 7 fundraiser for Environment Sandy Springs at the Abernathy Arts Center.
The Saturday event begins at 4 p.m. at 254 Johnson Ferry Road. The organizers’ registration page lists a 5:30 p.m. finish.
Admission costs $45 plus fees. An $85-plus-fees package includes the presentation, a signed copy of “35 Natural Wonders of Georgia to See Before You Die,” priority seating and a photograph with the authors. Environment Sandy Springs and East Cobb bookstore Bookmiser are organizing the event, with ticket proceeds supporting the nonprofit’s community programming.
Published in October 2025, the book combines Seabrook’s nature writing with Litrel’s watercolors and field sketches, according to the University of Georgia Press.
One featured destination is close to home: the Palisades Unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Its East Palisades trails and Bamboo Forest are in Sandy Springs, while West Palisades lies across the river in Cobb County, Rough Draft Atlanta reported.
Cox Enterprises is sponsoring the event. ESS President Jim Newbury said the organization hopes to introduce residents to the authors and encourage exploration of Georgia’s landscapes.
Separately, metro Atlanta arts nonprofits have until Thursday, Oct. 29, to apply for Arts Capital | Atlanta’s inaugural Redistribution Fund.
The fund has collected more than $1 million for unrestricted grants. All applicants confirmed as eligible will receive a share, with individual awards estimated at $2,000 to $5,000. Applications are reviewed for eligibility rather than ranked on artistic merit or writing quality, according to the program’s official guidelines.
Applicants must have operated continuously for at least three years, have an arts-centered mission and present public arts programming as their principal public activity. They must be independent nonprofits or operate under an established, qualifying fiscal sponsorship.
Organizations must also be headquartered in and primarily serve the program’s 11-county metro Atlanta region, which includes Fulton County. Annual operating expenses must fall between $5,000 and $15 million. Subsidiaries of schools, governments, businesses or other nonprofits are excluded.
Arts Capital | Atlanta aims to distribute the awards by year’s end. Applications and full requirements are available at artscapitalatlanta.org.
