Lizzie King drove in May Weis in the bottom of the seventh Tuesday, Oct. 6, to give Riverwood a 3-2 walk-off win over Lanier.

It was the Raiders' final home game of the regular season.

The victory pushed Riverwood to 13-7-1 overall and 6-3 in Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Region 7-6A, good for second place in the region standings, according to MaxPreps. The Raiders are riding a two-game winning streak heading into the final stretch.

Riverwood Athletics posted on X after the game that King delivered the game-winning RBI and credited the team's defense throughout the night.

King, a left fielder, came through against a Lanier squad the Raiders also beat on the road Sept. 3, 8-5. Weis, a University of South Carolina commit and the team's pitcher, was the runner who crossed the plate to end it. During a Sept. 1 win over Gainesville, Weis set a school record by recording her 500th career strikeout, surpassing a mark that had stood since 2010, according to the Riverwood Athletics website.

Head coach Jason Russo's squad opened the 2026 campaign by sweeping the Battle of Sandy Springs tournament with a 3-0 record. The Raiders sat atop Region 7-6A as recently as the week of Sept. 28 but slipped to second after a loss to Johns Creek on Sept. 29 and a loss to Milton on Oct. 1.

Two regular-season games remain: a home matchup against Chamblee on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and a road trip to Roswell on Thursday, Oct. 8. The Roswell game is the Raiders' final region game, and the result will help determine their postseason ranking (PSR) position heading into the playoffs.

Riverwood entered the week ranked No. 24 in the GHSA 6A PSR based on a 12-7 record, according to GHSA rankings. That number could climb once the Oct. 6 win over Lanier is factored in. Under revised GHSA rules for 2026, only the region champion earns an automatic playoff berth. The remaining 24 spots go to the highest-ranked teams by PSR.

The GHSA 6A first-round playoff games are set for Tuesday, Oct. 13, with the state championship series running Oct. 28–31 at South Commons Softball Complex in Columbus, according to the GHSA calendar. Riverwood's first-round opponent will be determined after region play wraps up Oct. 8.
