Riverwood's volleyball team enters the 6A Region 7 tournament Tuesday, Oct. 6, carrying a 28-8 record and a four-match winning streak into the program's first postseason push since 2023.

The Raiders finished the regular season 5-1 in region play, placing them second in the standings, according to MaxPreps. They will host the final two rounds of the three-day tournament, which runs through Thursday, Oct. 8.

A region tournament win would send Riverwood to the Class 6A state tournament beginning Oct. 17. The Raiders last reached the postseason in 2023, when they went 30-12-1 and advanced to the second round.

Riverwood went 11-19 in 2024 and 19-16 in 2025 before surging this fall under head coach E'Lisa Ladson, who was named the Riverwood Athletic Department's September Coach of the Month. The team is ranked No. 11 in Class 6A and No. 39 in Georgia by MaxPreps.

"I've got a lot of girls that are not new to varsity level, so they're finally kind of settling in this season," Ladson told Fulton Neighbor on Sept. 30.

Senior outside hitter Sasha Francis, a Yale commit, leads the team with 229 kills. Senior setter Syler Lewis has piled up 470 assists and 211 digs.

Region 7-6A includes Alpharetta, a three-time state champion and last year's 6A runner-up, and Johns Creek, ranked sixth in 6A. Riverwood beat Alpharetta 3-1 on Sept. 29 to pull into a three-way tie for first before closing the regular season with wins over Druid Hills and Decatur on Oct. 1.

Ladson said the two losses to Johns Creek this season came down to one or two plays but added that the Raiders can keep up with anyone in the state.

The GHSA Volleyball State Championship is scheduled for Oct. 29–31. Specific bracket matchups and seedings for the region tournament had not been posted as of Sunday, Oct. 4.
