A Sandy Springs teacher and her husband found a black kitten trapped in their car's suspension while driving to pick up cupcakes for her journalism students earlier in October.
The couple ended up adopting the kitten, naming him Friday Shadow, just in time for their Halloween wedding anniversary.
Nicole, the teacher, told Good News Network that she and her husband, Brandon, were on their way to get birthday cupcakes for her class when another driver began honking and gesturing at them. They pulled over and spotted something dangling beneath the vehicle.
It was a tiny black kitten wedged near the suspension.
Rather than risk injuring the animal by moving the car, the couple called 911. Three firefighters and two police officers from Sandy Springs responded to free the kitten, Valley Vanguard Online reported. The kitten weighed just over a pound and was less than seven weeks old, according to Good News Network.
It took all five responders to coax the animal loose. Nicole told Good News Network the couple drove the kitten straight to a veterinarian, who confirmed his young age. Valley Vanguard Online reported the kitten was stable after the ordeal.
Nicole and Brandon were married on Halloween. They saw a black kitten arriving in October as a sign. They named him Friday Shadow.
"We couldn't just send him on his way," Nicole told Good News Network.
The couple said they wanted to share the story to recognize the emergency crew. "These wonderful first responders should get some recognition for going above and beyond to save such a tiny life," Nicole said.
Friday Shadow now lives with Nicole and Brandon.
